Mitten Napkin Wrap

Earlier this month, I shared some embroidery patterns of mittens, and now I've got a little project that uses those patterns! I thought it would be fun to make napkin wraps to bring warm toasty hands to your dinner table. There's a very sweet mitten napkin tie that I saw on Flickr, but I had another idea in mind. I wanted the mitten to hold the napkin...cute right?

Make them as lone, odd mittens or in pairs, but you'll be smitten with these mittens! (I couldn't help myself!)

Here's what you'll need for each wrap:

A mitten embroidered onto cotton fabric
Paper-backed fusible interfacing (the stronger the better!)
Wool blend felt
Hook and loop fastener (the two-in-one type would be best)
Craft glue or Fabri-Tack

Iron the embroidered mitten onto the interfacing. Cut around the embroidery, leaving about 1/4 inch of fabric.

Peel off the paper backing and iron the mitten onto felt. You'll want to position this so that a strip of felt can be cut coming off the cuff part of the mitten.

Cut around the edge of the mitten shape, leaving a bit of felt showing. Leave a strip of felt attached that is about as wide as the mitten cuff and that extends about 4 inches from the cuff.

Glue a piece of fastener on the back of the mitten, and a second piece (or the other side, if using two-part fastener) on the front at the end of the strip. Let it dry completely. Think it's close enough? Let it dry some more.

Now your napkin wrap is all ready to hold your napkins! Made at this size, it's best for cloth napkins, but if you shrink it down some, it would work on paper napkins too.

You could also very easily adapt this for other patterns and shapes...it's could even be a fun way to use the mishmash of little motifs you may have hanging around!
